Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Cimarron Winter is proud of our Minnesota community and our company’s community engagement. We appreciate being part of such vibrant, thriving industries in the Twin Cities. Recently, we’ve had the pleasure of working closely with a beloved gift store and brand that really highlights local attitude and pride: Shop in the City.
Shop in the City is a very popular and unique neighborhood gift store brand located in Edina and Stillwater, Minnesota. During the holiday season, Shop in the City expands by holding Dayton’s Holiday Markets in both Minneapolis and Edina. Owned by mother-and-son team Linda Getchell and Jakob Sanders, Shop in the City offers clothing, houseware and decorations, novelty items, and more.
The neighborhood gift store has been running since 2002, and local pride and community closeness has always been a core value of the brand. They look for products from Minnesota-based companies or representing something special about Minnesota. And the store prides themselves in strong relationships with both customers and vendors.
Speaking of Minnesota pride and history, Shop in the City is the official merchandise partner for Dayton’s department store, a beloved Minnesota institution. Operating in Minnesota for nearly a century, it served Minneapolis and the surrounding areas with substantial services that extended beyond retail, including a post office, newspaper, laundry, and bakery.
Although closed now, Dayton’s still holds a special place in the hearts of many Minnesotans. Shop in the City offers a wide range of Dayton's branded goods including shirts, hats, and socks. But arguably the most popular Dayton’s item is the very beloved Santabear!
Dayton’s department store started selling Santabear at Christmas time in 1985—most years having a unique theme and outfit. For many Minnesotan families, adding the new Santabear was an annual tradition. Shop in the City has continued participating in that tradition. Since the Santabear revival in 2022, Shop in the City has carried Santabear each year. Santabear turns 40 this year, and the 2025 is now available for pre-order.
We’re still in the process of helping Shop in the City make it easier to share their store and gifts with customers online. Over the past few months, we’ve helped rebuild their site on a stable ecommerce platform. Along with CMS analysis and migration, our work has included site redesign, copywriting, photoshoots, and site management training. Shop in the City is continuing to update regularly, so keep your eye on the website and social channels as it continues to expand.
